ABOUT SOMI SAUNA

OUR STORY

SOMi Sauna started with a simple idea: bring people together through heat, cold, and the changing seasons of Michigan.

It grew out of small things: quiet sunrise sits by the lake, cold-morning walks, and the feeling of warming up after being out in the elements. Those moments turned into sketches, long build days, and eventually a handcrafted, wood-fired sauna on wheels.
SOMi was built to move, but also to feel like home — cedar walls, soft light, and benches full of friends. Michigan’s long winters, bright summers, and crisp evenings shaped everything. We wanted a space that felt warm, grounded, and welcoming wherever it parked.

Now SOMi travels from driveway to lakeshore to trailhead, carrying the same idea with it: slow down, warm up, breathe deep, and be together.

WHY WE SAUNA

Sauna is one of the oldest, simplest wellness habits: warm up, cool down, repeat.

The heat loosens the body; the cold wakes it up. Back and forth, the cycle clears the mind and settles the nervous system.

But sauna is more than temperature — it’s company. Some people talk; some sit quietly. Some laugh; some simply breathe. You step out lighter than you arrived because you shared time with others in a warm, grounding space.

SOMi brings that feeling outdoors, letting fresh air, trees, snow, rain, and stars become part of the ritual.

A SAUNA THAT TRAVELS WITH YOU

SOMi is mobile — the warmth comes to you. We set up at:

  • Inland lakes and beach access points

  • Parks and nature centers

  • Neighborhoods and cul-de-sacs

  • Backyards and driveways

  • Events and markets

  • Wellness retreats

  • Winter gatherings

  • Cold-plunge meetups

If the ground is level and the sky is open, SOMi can likely be there.
Inside, there is space for 8–10 people comfortably, 14 max.
SAUNA ETIQUETTE & RULES

To keep the space safe, clean, and comfortable, please follow these guidelines:

  • Capacity: 14 people max

  • Rinse or wipe off before entering when possible

  • Wear a swimsuit or athletic attire

  • Sit or lie on a towel

  • No shoes or boots inside

  • No food or drinks inside (water is okay)

  • Water on the rocks:

    • Use a small amount of water at a time — 1–2 ladles, then wait at least 15 minutes before adding more.

    •  Too much water too fast will cool the stove and the room down, and it takes time to recover. (potentially hours)

    • If staff are not present, please follow posted instructions and be mindful to maintain steady heat.

  • Close the door fully each time you enter or exit

  • Stay hydrated throughout your session

  • Take breaks as needed; step out if you feel unwell

  • Avoid alcohol or substances before or during sauna use
